Fairy Tale Narrative

“Rapunzel”  Fairy Tale Literacy Narrative

The Fairy Tale that I am going to be writing about is the Fairy Tale called “Rapunzel”. This Fairy Tale is about a girl named Rapunzel who got kidnapped when she was little by an evil witch. Then she was kept locked away in a tall tower not allowed to go outside. This allowed her to have very long beautiful blonde hair which she later on uses to escape the tower with a prince. So I’m going to be talking about my thoughts and emotional reaction to this Fairy Tale and how it has impacted me as a reader.

So, when I first heard of the fairy Tale, I was a little kid. I was about 9 years old and my mom read it to me. When I was 9, everything about me was different. I used to love cartoons, shows, and all sorts of things that an average kid would like. Including toys, going to the playground and things like that. But most importantly at that time I was more interested in learning about new Fairy Tales and new shows that I have never watched or read before. But now at my age, I don’t really like to watch shows or Fairy Tales or cartoons anymore. I feel like I matured from that and all I do now is watch YouTube videos of youtubers and streamers and watch a lot of sports like the NBA and MLB. So when my mom read Rapunzel to me, I loved it and thought it was funny and foolish and it made me want to read it more, since I was just a little

kid in grade school. I didn’t really know much and I didn’t really care about anything and never actually saw the deep meanings behind things no matter how important or amateur things were. But 9 years later I read it again. Not only did the meaning behind the fairy tale change for me, but also how I didn’t really enjoy reading it how I used to. I just thought of it as a lesson or meaning more than just entertainment after I read it again at this age of my life. My views on the Fairy Tale changed and I realized it has a bigger meaning to it then i ever thought it had. What changed my idea of the story and how it affected me emotionally was just how sad and messed up it was. It made me sad to see how a young girl was just trapped in a tower for years by an evil witch. This made me realize that she had no freedom in her life just like how I didn’t have freedom in my life during my injury.

At some point I lost hope in my life and felt the same way as Rapunzel felt. There was once at a point in my life where I lost hope that I wasn’t going to be able to play the sports that I love anymore. One time I had an injury on my forearm, I got hit with a ball going 80+mph that went straight to my forearm and it was the worst pain ever and it came with a cost. I had to go to the hospital and get checked up every 3 weeks and it was keeping me away from playing baseball and other favorite sports that I love. This made me miss out on special events of baseball games from my high school baseball team like home games where crowds of people would come and it would just hurt to know that I can’t be out there and give it my all and show the people how good and how much I loved the sport of baseball. So I was just honestly

miserable. It was so sad when I saw videos and pictures of my teammates playing while I was at home just doing nothing or sitting on the sidelines of the game just spectating. It actually mentally affected me and I never felt so sad in my life before.  So months passed and my forearm was still always hurting and bothering me so at some point I lost hope. But then I decided to have hope and not give up so I decided to go to YouTube and find ways to solve my forearm problem and I found a certain exercise that was able to help me with my forearm. The exercise was set up for me to massage my forearms and do certain arm motions for it to be more flexible and for it to heal and it work. So when I figured that out. I was able to heal up and I was able to now play the sports and play in my baseball games that I missed for a long time. I feel like none of this would have ever happened if I just lost hope.

So while Rapunze was basically trapped in prison. All she had was a window to look out of and her very long blond majestic hair that she has developed from all those years of her living in that tower. That showed to me how life can be unexpected and you could never know what could come your way and lose your privileges in life without doing no harm like how Rapunezle went through all of these years in the tower by herself and with that evil witch.

But there is always hope. The lesson I learned when reading this is no matter how bad things can get you should always have hope in your life. During the Fairy Tale, an example of

Hope was how at a moment,  Rapunzel was singing in her tower. A prince from a distance heard her singing and realized that she was all alone So he went to rescue her out of the tower. The prince gave her an idea to use her very long hair, to use as a rope to bring herself down the tower so she could go and escape with the prince. This reminded me about myself how I used resources like youtube videos to help me with my problem of learning how to fix my forearm injury. This made me realize that in life I should always have hope and it made me have a positive impact on myself that if bad things happen to you, and if you have hope, something good and wonderful can happen to you like how something good happened to Rapuenzel. I was basically trapped in a prison just like how Rapunzel was of not being able to go outside and do the things I love because of my limitations. So this was a good lesson that has impacted me for the good.

This Fairy Tale has helped me a lot. It made me contribute to my literacy development since it made me have a better understanding of when structuring writings. It made me have a better format and gave me better narrative techniques. It made me see the causes and the problems of the fairy tale and I could apply those things to my writing. It really helped me a lot.
